The People's Economics

In today's economy many people are struggling to get by, and I feel that a substantial cause of this is the cost of accommodation. The land occupied by houses is not a good which can be created as required, rather people have to bid against each other in ever higher amounts to secure somewhere to live. I've looked at the ideas of Henry George who proposed all land should be owned by the state. I'm reading this book to see what ideas it puts forward for dealing with the problems of affordable housing.

Much of the Kindle sample is 'front matter', but the foreword by John Muellbauer gives a good overview of the contents of the book. It's clear that a major theme will be highlighting the lack of study of land in mainstream economics courses, despite the fact that it is a major component of the economy and is different from standard economic goods. The start of chapter 1 suggests that this book should be accessible to any interested reader, not just academics.
